Specialty Rehabilitation’s Program for Fibromyalgia
Who would benefit?
- A person diagnosed with fibromyalgia or similar chronic pain syndrome.
Program Goals:
- Normal and Stable sleep patterns.
- Normal and stable self care, work and leisure activities.
- Normalize resting tone in postures.
- Normalize circulation at rest and during activity or exercise.
- Normalize muscle efficiency in activities and exercise.
- Normal and stable body temperature, blood glucose,
blood pressure and resting heart rate.
Evaluation:
Upon receiving physician’s orders, we complete a full
evaluation, including: a medical history and stress
assessment; assessment of strength, range of motion,
posture, ADL’s, vital signs and level of pain. Also
included is a questionnaire to determine if the client has
characteristics of: hypoglycemia, hypothyroid, neurally
mediated hypotension, issues with the immune system or
hormonal components to their fibromyalgia.
Treatment:
A treatment plan is devised for each individual
depending on their specific needs, some of which may include:
- Biofeedback and neuromuscular re-education.
- Postural re-education.
- Therapeutic exercises (stretching, strengthening and cardiovascular).
- Myofascial release techniques.
- ADL training including energy conservation techniques.
- Modalities as indicated (moist heat, ice, Vapocoolant spray).
- Diaphragmatic breathing techniques.
- Instruction on an individualized home exercise
program and self maintenance of condition.
